I was lucky to have a financially savvy father. He’s a business man and had the patience to sit down and guide me through basic investing and savings. Since not everyone has a financially savvy father, let me offer some resources and guidance that might help.
Understanding personal finances can be complicated, but when armed with proper information, it can be manageable.
I am not a financial adviser, and I am not certified to give financial advice but I can let you know what I use to learn.
Here are some of the resources for my ‘research’.
- MoneySense
- Globe and Mail
- Business Insider
- Canadian Consumer Agencies
- Ministry of Finance
- CMHC
- The Wealthy Barber
- Build Wealth Canada Podcast
- Fire Drill Podcast
- The Financial Diet
I spend about 2-3 hours a week learning about personal finance. To me, this time is an important investment in my future and I am always looking for more ways to learn. Whether you are just starting to take control of your finances, or you’re an experienced financial adviser, I think we can all agree the knowledge is power.
